Moll/Mencher
A classic blues, this song has been recorded by everyone from Louis Armstrong to Eric Clapton, though the version that runs through my head is by the great T-Bone Walker. Regarding the singing of this tune: it's a 'guy' tune - changing "girl" to "boy" doesn't fly, in my opinion. LaVay Smith tries it with her Red Hot Skillet Lickers here and it just doesn't work somehow. Why is this? The various gendered lyrics are below. If I sang it, I wouldn't change the lyric. After all, don't we all have elements of pansexuality in us?
CHORUS
I want a little girl to love a lot
I'd give her everything that I've got
For a little girl who'd fall in love with me
I want a little girl, she may not look
Like the kind in the picture book
But if she can cook, she'll suit me to a 'T'
She don't have to wave her hair
Or dress in fancy clothes
And I wouldn't even care
If she don't wear silken hose
I want a little girl to call my own
There must be someone that's all alone
Just a little girl who'd fall in love with me
