Donaldson/Kahn
The choir sings, "Here Comes the Bride", another victim is by her side.
He's lost his reason, 'cause it's the season, for makin' whoopee.
Quite a few people have done this song, and it's kind of a toss-up as to whether it's Frank's or Louis' version that is best known today... that is, if the tune is well known at all. But it was Eddie Cantor - a great Jewish vaudeville star - who made the song famous. Gus Kahn wrote the lyrics for him. Eddie sang it definitively, ironically, humorously. "Brother, beware!" he says, as another June rolls around.
CHORUS
Another bride, another June
Another sunny honeymoon
Another season, another reason
For makin' whoopie
A lot of shoes, a lot of rice
the groom is nervous, he answers twice
He's lost his reason, cause it's the season
For makin' whoopee
Picture a little love nest
down where the roses cling
Picture the same sweet love nest
Think what a year can bring
He's washing dishes and baby clothes
He's so ambitious - he even sews
But don't forget folks, that's what you get folks
For makin' whoopee
Another year or maybe less
What's this I hear? Well, can't you guess
She feels neglected, and he's suspected
Of makin' whoopee
She sits alone, most every night
He doesn't phone or evenwrite
He says he's busy, but she says "Is he?'
'He's makin' whoopee"
He doesn't make much money
only five thousand per
Some judge who thinks he's funny
says, "You'll pay six to her"
He says, "Now judge, suppose I fail"
The judge says, "Bud, right into jail'
"You better keep her, you'll find it's cheaper'
'Then makin' whoopee"
ALTERNATE LYRICS
The choir sings, "Here Comes the Bride"
Another victim is by her side
He's lost his reason, 'cause it's the season
For makin' whoopee
Down through the countless ages,
You'll find them everywhere
Somebody makes good wages,
Somebody wants her share
She calls him "Toodles" and rolls her eyes,
She bakes him strudels, and makes him pies
What is it all for? It's so he'll fall
For makin' whoopie
