Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup (1936)

A. Sosenko

This is one of my all-time favorite Nat KIng Cole songs - he had a hit with it in 1955 - although today it is almost never played anywhere. In fact, many musicians simply don't know the tune. The song was originally written for the great cabaret singer Hildegarde, whose name belies the fact that she was born in Wisconsin. On a final note - at a time when racial tensions were incredible high in the US, Nat Cole somehow soothed us all - he even had his own TV show, which featured guests of all ethnic types.

LYRICS

Darling, je vous aime beaucoup
Je ne sais pas what to do
You know you've completely
Stolen my heart

Morning, noon and nighttime too
Toujours, wondering what to do
That's the way I've felt
Right from the start

Ah, cherie!
My love for you is tres, tres fort
Wish my French were good enough
I'd tell you so much more

But I hope that you compris
All the things you mean to me
Darling, je vous aime beaucoup
I love you, yes I do
